Singapore Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) – Part 1


The Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) is designed to allow certain categories of individuals to stay in Singapore for an extended period. There are two types of LTVPs available in Singapore, one issued by the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) and the other by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM). This article will provide a detailed overview of the eligibility criteria for ICA LTVP, the application process, and essential information for prospective applicants.


ICA Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) Eligibility

The ICA LTVP is available to the following individuals:

1. Spouse of a Singapore citizen

  • Singapore citizen – Non-resident (NR) couples are strongly encouraged to complete their Pre-Marriage LTVP Assessment (PMLA) before marriage. A foreign spouse of a Singapore citizen can apply for a Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) after marriage under the sponsorship of their Singapore citizen spouse. 
  • NR spouses who are expecting/have Singapore citizen child(ren) from the current marriage, or have been married to a Singapore citizen for at least three years, may be eligible for a Long Term Visit Pass Plus (LTVP+), which has a longer validity period than the LTVP. There is no separate application for the LTVP+. ICA will assess the NR spouse’s eligibility for LTVP+ when he/she applies for an LTVP or to renew his/her LTVP.

2. Spouse of a Permanent Resident

  • A foreign spouse of a Singapore PR can apply for a Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) after marriage under the sponsorship of his/her PR spouse.

3. Child under the age of 21 born to a Singapore citizen or Permanent Resident, or has been legally adopted by a Singapore citizen/Singapore Permanent Resident (PR)

  • A child under the age of 21, who is not married and born within the context of a legal marriage to a Singapore citizen or PR, or has been legally adopted by, a Singapore citizen or PR, can apply for a Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) under the sponsorship of the Singapore citizen or PR parent.

4. Parent of a Singapore citizen or Permanent Resident

  • Parent(s) of a Singapore citizen or PR can apply for a Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) under the sponsorship of their Singapore citizen or PR child. The Singapore citizen or PR sponsor must be above 21 years old.

Note: Parent(s)-in-law of a Singapore citizen or PR are not eligible to apply for an LTVP under their sponsorship.

5. Graduate from an Institute of Higher Learning seeking employment in Singapore

  • A graduate from an Institute of Higher Learning can apply for a Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) to seek employment in Singapore. No sponsor is required for the LTVP application.

6. Mother or grandmother of a young person studying in Singapore on a Student’s Pass

  • The mother or grandmother of a Student’s Pass holder studying in eligible schools in Singapore can apply for a Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP). A local sponsor, who is a Singapore citizen or Permanent Resident (PR) above 21 years old, is required for the LTVP application.

7. Visitor seeking permission to give birth in Singapore

  • A female visitor can apply for a Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) to give birth in Singapore. A local sponsor, who is a Singapore citizen or Permanent Resident (PR) above 21 years old, is required for the LTVP application.

When Should You Apply for LTVP?

The application should be made while the applicant is in Singapore with a short-term Visit Pass, at least 10 days before the pass expires.

LTVP Documents Required

Applicants need to provide specific documents based on their eligibility category. These may include marriage certificates, birth certificates, educational certificates, and other relevant documents. The sponsor is also required to submit specific documents, such as their NRIC and income tax notice of assessment for the past three years. Please note that all official translation of documents submitted for any application to ICA is required if they are not in the English language.

  • Income Tax Notice of Assessment for the past three years, and Central Provident Fund (CPF) Statement showing monthly CPF contributions for the past 12 months
  • Letter of employment, stating the date of commencement, designation and monthly salary.
    For those who are self-employed, a valid registration certificate from the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA) and the company’s Profit and Loss Statement for the past 12 months
  • Payslips for the past 6 months

  • Divorce certificate(s), if either or both of you have been married before
  • Death certificates(s), if either or both of you have been widowed before
  • Letter of Long-Term Visit Pass Eligibility (LLE), if applicable

2. Spouse of a Singapore Permanent Resident (PR)

  • Passport biodata page

  • The applicant’s recent passport-sized, digital, colour photograph taken within the last three months
  • The child’s birth certificate, passport and Student’s Pass card (if the applicant is the child’s mother) or;
  • The grandchild’s birth certificate and those of his/her parents, and his/her Student’s Pass card (If the applicant is the child’s grandmother).

7. Visitor seeking permission to give birth in Singapore

Applicant (Foreign Mother)
  • Passport biodata page
  • Spouse’s passport biodata page
  • Disembarkation/Embarkation (D/E) number (if applicable).
  • Marriage certificate
  • A letter from a locally registered doctor stating the expected delivery date and whether there are any complications with the pregnancy
  • A letter from the applicant’s embassy or high commission stating that the newborn child will take the applicant’s nationality and that it will issue the child with a valid passport or travel document
  • Your recent passport-sized, digital, colour photograph taken within the last three months

LTVP Fees and Processing Time

A non-refundable processing fee of S$45 is applicable for each application. Additional fees will apply upon collection if the LTVP application is granted in-principle approval. The processing time for LTVP applications is generally around six (6) weeks, provided all required documents are submitted and in order.

Applications by foreign spouses of Singapore citizens who did not complete the Pre-Marriage Long-Term Visit Pass Assessment (PMLA) may take longer, up to six (6) months, to be processed.

You will be informed of the outcome of the LTVP application via email. You may also check the LTVP application status online through MyICA or the e-Service.

LTVP Renewal

For Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) holders, please renew the LTVP at least two (2) months before the expiration of the current LTVP.
